Guide

How to set holiday hours on your Google Business Profile.

Closed on the holiday, open late before it, away for a week in August: customers check Google before they come. Here are Google's own steps for special hours, when a closure should be "Temporarily closed" instead, and the other places your hours need to match.

The steps, as Google gives them.

  1. Open your profile

Go to your Business Profile, signed in with the Google account that manages it, and select Edit profile, then Hours. In the Google Maps app: tap Business at the bottom right, then Edit profile.

  2. Special hours

In the "Business hours" section, next to Special hours, select Edit. Pick a date Google suggests and select Review, or select Add a date for your own.

  3. Open or closed

Closed that day: make sure the Closed box is checked. Open with different hours: uncheck Closed and enter the hours. Two sets of hours on one day: More, then Add hours.

  4. Save

Select Save. Google reviews changes before they go live on your profile, so do it a few days ahead.

Good to know.

  • Your regular hours stay as they are. Special hours show to customers only on the days you set.
  • Confirm the holidays even when nothing changes. Google suggests confirming your hours for official holidays even if they are your regular hours. On those days Google may show people a note that your hours might differ.
  • Main hours must be on. Special hours show only when your hours are set to "Open with main hours".
  • A late night counts. If you open past midnight, the special hours win over the next day's regular hours.

Special hours or "Temporarily closed"?

  • A holiday or a short closure, up to 6 days: special hours
  • A longer break: "Temporarily closed"
  • Google's own pages differ on exactly 7 days, so stay on the safe side
  • A temporarily closed business can rank after open ones in broad searches

The other places customers look.

Your hours live in more places than Google:

  • Apple Maps, through Apple Business: holiday open and closed hours are set as temporary special hours there.
  • Bing Places, your Facebook page and your website.
  • Your social profiles' bios, if they mention your hours.
  • Your own answers: an automatic reply, a booking page, and whoever answers your phone and your messages.

An hour that is right on Google and wrong on your website is the kind of mismatch customers remember.

Set it once with Neaion.

Tell your office your hours and closed days once, in Settings or in plain words in its chat. From then on it answers customers with them, offers no booking on a closed day, and prepares the same hours and closed days for your Google profile, sent when you press it, each closed day as special hours. If you switch on "Keep Google up to date", a change is sent by itself. A ready text for your Instagram, X and TikTok bios comes with it. See what your office does with your Google profile.

It never

  • Changes your business name, description or phone on Google
  • Overwrites special opening times you set on Google yourself
  • Sends anything to Google you did not press, unless you switched it on
