Five kinds of AI wearable
- Rings you talk to. Small and always on you; most hand the work to your phone. Lychnos Ring is designed to answer on the ring itself.
- Health rings. Sleep and health insights; no talking.
- Pendants and clips. They capture what you say or hear and sum it up later; some listen all the time.
- Handhelds. A small device for your pocket, with its own screen and, in Rabbit’s case, its own connection.
- Glasses. A display in front of your eye; more to wear, and more to see.
Questions to ask before you choose
- When does it listen? All the time, or only while you press? Why it matters.
- Does it need your phone, and where do the answers come back?
- What does the plan cost, and what still works without it? What a plan pays for.
- What happens if the company is sold or closes? Two of the devices above have already stopped: Limitless and Humane.
What we are building
A ring you talk to that answers on the ring, works without your phone after set-up, and asks before it acts. It is in development, for Europe first. The rings alone, side by side: AI rings, compared. One by one: Plaud NotePin, Bee, Friend, Rabbit R1, Meta Ray-Ban Display, Galaxy Ring, Vocci Ring, Spark Ring and Nirva.
Questions
Which AI wearable works without a phone?
Of the devices here, Rabbit R1 has its own mobile connection, according to a review, and Lychnos Ring is designed with its own eSIM. The others rely on your phone or an app.
Which ones listen all the time?
Friend says it is always listening while connected, and Nirva listens passively to its wearer’s voice. Sandbar Stream and Lychnos Ring listen only while you press, and Bee lets you switch listening on and off.
