Guide
Why does an AI ring need a plan?
More and more smart rings come with a monthly fee, and people rightly ask why. Our ring will come with one too, so we owe you an answer.
What the plan pays for
- Mobile data. The ring has its own eSIM, so it reaches Lychnos without your phone. Every network charges for that connection.
- Speech. Your words become text in our cloud in the EU, on servers built for speech recognition.
- The assistant. Every answer runs on a large language model, and every web search is paid for per search.
- Watching for you. Servers that check your mail and calendar for what matters, and buzz you at the right moment.
- Updates and backups for the ring and your settings.
What it costs
€9.99 a month for the first buyers in the first year; after that expected at €14.99 to €19.99. Talking is not cut off; web searches have a monthly allowance. If the plan’s price ever changes, we tell you at least 30 days before, and you can cancel before it applies. The ring itself is expected at €299 with VAT.
What works without it
Very little, and we would rather say so. Without the plan the ring cannot reach Lychnos. It can still send the stop to Alkyon at home over Bluetooth.
Questions to ask of any plan
- What stops working if I cancel?
- Is the price fixed for early buyers, and for how long?
- Can I bring my own AI provider, and what does the plan still pay for then?
- What happens to my data when I cancel?
- Does the device work without the phone, or is the plan paying for features the phone already has?

Questions
Is there a smart ring without a subscription?
Yes. Several health rings work without one, and Pebble Index 01 has none. They rely on your phone for the connection and the work. A ring that works without the phone has to pay for its own connection.
Can I use my own AI provider instead?
Yes, with your own API key. The plan still carries the ring’s mobile data and speech.
