Indoor drones and home robots in 2026.

A robot that moves around your home has been promised for years. This is what had reached homes by November 2026, from the makers’ pages and the press.

In short. Of the products we looked at, none is on open sale in Europe. Amazon offers its flying Ring Always Home Cam and its rolling Astro in the US by invitation, Samsung’s Ballie has been put on hold, and drones that change shape in flight to pass a gap exist in research, not in shops. Alkyon is a concept, planned for Europe.

Why so few

Flying indoors is hard: people and pets come close, glass and mirrors fool sensors, curtains get pulled in, the air moves, and satellites do not help a robot find its way. Rolling robots avoid most of that, but they cannot reach a shelf or climb a step. More in flying a drone indoors.

Drones that change shape

Drones whose arms fold or turn in flight to fit through a gap exist in university research, such as the foldable drone from the University of Zurich. We found no consumer product that does this. The nearest on sale, a professional film drone (DJI Inspire 3), raises its landing gear to clear the camera’s view, not to pass through a door.

Our concept, Alkyon

Alkyon is our concept for a small companion that flies in your home, folds its arms to pass narrow gaps, is designed to keep a metre from people, and lands on a dock that charges it. It flies in simulation, is not for sale, and is planned for Europe only. How we design it: guards a finger cannot pass, a camera that stays at home, and the AI proposes, tested code decides.

Questions

Can I buy an indoor drone for my home?

Of the products in this table, none is on open sale in Europe as of November 2026. Ordinary camera drones can fly indoors, but they are not made to live in a home.

What happened to Samsung Ballie?

In January 2026 Samsung was reported to have put Ballie on hold indefinitely, and in February its web page began to lead to projectors instead. Samsung had not formally cancelled it.
