A smart ring with a screen.

Most smart rings have no screen at all. Lychnos Ring has a small see-through one. It stays dark until you look, and less fits on it than you might expect.

What fits

72 by 40 pixels holds a few short lines of text, or one line and a small icon. That is enough for:

What does not fit

Long messages, pictures, maps and feeds. That is on purpose: the ring answers and then gets out of the way. The rest is read to you, or waits for a bigger screen.

Why see-through

Under clear resin, the screen is hard to see when it is off: the ring looks like a ring until it has something to say. It lights when you turn your hand to look, or when an answer arrives, and goes dark again.

Light, buzz and voice together

The screen is one of three ways the ring answers. A buzz tells you something arrived, and its pattern tells you what kind of thing; the screen shows the first line; the ring’s speaker, or your earbuds, read the rest. You can feel the buzz patterns on our home page, on a phone that vibrates. More on the voice in a ring that talks back.

Questions

Does the screen use much battery?

It is dark most of the day and lights only for a moment when you look or when an answer arrives. In our design the radio needs far more energy than the screen.
